How Are Cardboard Boxes Made? A Step-by-Step Look Inside the Packaging Process
Cardboard boxes are made through seven precise stages, starting with fibres from softwood, hardwood, or recycled sources that form linerboard and fluting medium. On the corrugator, steam and starch adhesive bond layers into single-, double-, or triple-wall board. Sheets are printed, scored, and cut into box blanks using flexo or die-cutting equipment. Boxes are folded, glued, and finished with options such as foil or UV coating. Final products undergo burst and edge crush tests before shipment, with most using 50% recycled fibre and starch-based adhesives to ensure recyclability.
